Announcing the Nicole's Nickels 2009 Holiday Gift Guide!

In an effort to bring my readers the best gift ideas and deals for this holiday season I am happy to announce that the Nicole's Nickels 2009 Holiday Gift Guide will run from November 16-December 17 approximately. I have so many great gifts for you all for everyone on your list!I'll be doing 31 giveaways in 31 days during the gift guide. Giveaways will post at approximately 12:00 noon each day and run for several days each! There will be multiple ways to enter and I'll be using the google form for the giveaways. I've gotten a great response since I started using them. Many magazines have coupons in them these days. I do a monthly post of the coupons you can find in magazines and where exactly to find them! If you find coupons that aren't listed here please either leave a comment on this post or send me an email! Sometimes it may make a difference in the coupons received if you received the magazine by subscription or purchased in the store so I will note how I received it.

Bumble Bee Recipes & Coupons

I have always loved tuna but I tend to like it with a lot of mayonnaise and on a sandwich. I was happy to be sent a box of Bumble Bee Tuna products as a result of my participation on the Bumble Bee Bee Squad. Along with the box of tuna products came several recipes. We recently had a conference call with Bumble Bee Foods and I was happy to learn about these other uses for tuna that aren't sandwiches or tuna noodle casserole.

The first recipe card I received is for Pizza with Prosciutto. I decided not to make this since I am not a prosciutto fan. I decided to make the Mediterranean-Style Rigatoni Pasta. It was so easy to open the can of tuna instead of worrying about defrosting another protein as I normally would have. The pasta was very flavorful with vegetables (peppers, onions, tomatoes), olives and the tuna. I added more than a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes though since I like it spicy!
Bumble Bee has many more recipes for their products available on their website. Currently, if you sign up for My Cookbook on BumbleBee.com (it's FREE) you'll be given access to a large library of searchable recipes as well as high-value coupons.

Bumble Bee has other products besides tuna, such as clams, shrimp, and salmon. My next recipe will use the can of salmon I was sent. I'm anxious to try the chile lime salmon tacos or the wasabi salmon and asian slaw - both sound yummy!

Lands' End has joined forces with the National Coalition for the Homeless to start the campaign called The Big Warm-up. The Big Warm-up provides an opportunity for people across the nation to donate a gently used coat that will then go on to warm one of more than 3.5 million homeless women, men and children in the United States right now – each facing a cold winter.

Beginning October 29 until November 30, Lands’ End is hosting Big Warm-up coat donation sites at its 252 Lands’ End Shops at Sears and 13 Lands’ End Inlets®. Donated coats will be distributed via the National Coalition for the Homeless in communities nearby. Lands’ End is also giving 20 percent off the purchase of a new coat for each one donated. Please consider going through your closets and donating your gently used coats to help support this wonderful campaign!

Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives Review & Giveaway

I'm a DealPro!

I meant to post this earlier but time got away from me. I found out a few weeks ago that I had been selected to be a DealPro for savings.com. Along with 24 other bloggers, I was flown to San Francisco where I attended the Save Up Event last week.

The Save Up Event was a great one-day event where I got to meet like-minded DealPros like myself! I was excited to meet bloggers whose blogs I have been following for a long time and of course to finally meet Coupon Dad, who I felt like I already knew!We had a great time and learned a lot about savings.com, a phenomenal website I will blog more about at a later date. We had a full agenda of panel discussions, roundtable discussions, lots of food and lots of laughs! I came back from the trip exhausted but exhilarated, having met people just like me who also have a passion for deals!

Savings.com pulled out all the stops for us on the trip and we felt like savings royalty! I'm excited to get more involved in their community-based website where users work together to find and share the best deals.

You can print two (2) of each coupon by hitting the back button on your browser.

Printing the coupons from the widget on my blog or by clicking here supports this blog! Remember to contact your local stores to see what their policy on accepting Internet printables is! It's best to print as many as you think you may need as soon as you see them (read: right now) because you never know when a coupon will reach its print limit. Sweetly You Review & Giveaway

My favorite scents are food-based scents and I love bath products so I jumped at the chance to review Sweetly You's products. Sweetly You is a delightful online retailer of primarily bath and body products. Their claim to fame is their enormous list of delicious scents that their products are available in. I was like a kid in a candy store choosing my reveiw items and really loved what I received.

I selected the thick and rick bubble bath in sugar cookie, the foaming bath butter in cookies n' cream, and the solid scents in marshmallow madness. They do have non-food related flavors but I couldn't resist the tempting fragrance names!

The thick & rich bubble bath in sugar cookie was divine. It was thick and creamy as the title suggests but also produced a generous amount of bubbles. The scent was intoxicating and it smelled like I had cookies baking in the oven! The foaming bath butter was a really interesting and cool product. It was creamy in my hand but foamed when put in the bath. The cookies n' cream scent was authentic and left me a little hungry! The solid scent is a small jar of solid perfume. I chose the marshmallow madness and loved the hint of sweetness it left on me. The jar is very small so it's good for your purse or the car, etc.

Juice Box Jungle Widget

The Juice Box Jungle Widget (it's lime green and in my left sidebar) contains some information this week about if firstborn children have higher IQ's than their siblings. Being a firstborn myself, I'll choose not to comment just in case my younger brother is reading this. I know he subscribes but does he actually read?

There is a great New York Times article on the topic that you can access just by clicking that lime green widget in my left sidebar. It's interesting from every perspective - whether you're firstborn, middle child or even the youngest! Some theories attribute this perceived higher IQ to family dynamics or even to greater responsibility given to the oldest child. Whatever the cause, this is one topic sure to spark discussion in your house!

By the way, the research shows that the oldest child has a 3 point higher IQ than the sibling closest to them in age.

Bob Evans Side Dishes Review & Giveaway

Just in time to make your holiday cooking easier, Publix is now carrying Bob Evans side dishes! I was sent the macaroni and cheese, original mashed potatoes and garlic mashed potatoes to try out. What a great timesaver these are! I served the mashed potatoes with meatloaf and it made my meal prep a snap! I love macaroni and cheese with tuna fish (not together but as a side dish) and so I prepared the mac and cheese then and loved the flavor!I loved the original mashed potatoes - they were creamy and smooth and very tasty. The macaroni and cheese was very cheesy but had a nice homemade flavor. My least favorite was the garlic mashed potatoes, there was something I couldn't put my finger on that made them my least favorite. You can find these great side dishes at many supermarkets around the country. I wanted to let Florida readers know that Publix has just started to carry these and you can find them in the refrigerator section of your grocery store.

You can make these in the microwave and they take minutes! Besides the varieties I tried, they are available in other traditional favorites such as green bean casserole, homestyle stuffing, and glazed apples. Bob Evans also has coupons on their website - currently there is a coupon for $.50 off any side dish!

Review: Homedics Restore Clean Water System

I love gadgets and gizmos and this Restore Clean Water System made by Homedics totally fascinated me! The Restore system is a very cool looking pitcher with the normal filter that you would expect from a water filter pitcher but it has the cool factor! After you let the water go through the filter, you plug the pitcher into the wall and press a button. Then the pitcher lights up blue and purple for a minute or two and the water gets purified.

It gets purified through Ultraviolet (UV) Clean technology. Other water filtration pitchers only offer filtered water, not purified water! According to Homedics, the purification UV process removes viruses and bacteria.

From Homedics, "Restore is California certified for microbiological water purification, a first for a water pitcher utilizing UV technology and is Gold Seal Certified to National Sanitation Foundation standards by the Water Quality Association. UV Technology has been used for over 60 years for its germicidal properties in hospitals and laboratories. For the first time, an application of this unique germ-killing technology is available for home use in an affordable, easy to use water pitcher."

Pros:
-Cool factor of the UV light
-Water tastes very fresh
-Inexpensive way to get clean water

Cons:
-Takes a long time for the water to filter through
-Pitcher doesn't fit in the door of the refrigerator
-Remembering to change the filter every 3 months

If you're in the market for a water purification system, definitely check this out. Not only did the water taste great, there is the ultimate wow factor of plugging in and zapping your water!

I have been a member of Synovate for over a year now and enjoy the variety of surveys I receive from them. Also, they frequently send me items for product tests and I love product tests! Synovate emails are from the name "Marie Brighton" and I average about 5 per week. I qualify for the majority of them and their threshhold of $10 to cash out is reasonable.

Five For Fighting Slice CD Review & Autographed CD Giveaway!

I have been a fan of Five For Fighting for some time now and I think that the song Superman has such a haunting melody. So when One2One Network asked me to review and host a giveaway of the new Five For Fighting Album Slice (debuted on October 12) I jumped at the opportunity.

I was emailed a download of the album which I have been listening to as I blog at my computer ever since. I don't usually listen to music in my home office area, I just sit and blog, blog, blog! I love having music playing in the background and Slice has been on repeat since I received it!

John Onrasik, the voice behind Five for Fighting, sets his memories to music in the album, Slice. My favorite song is the title track, Slice, which is somewhat of a play on the old favorite, American Pie. The song being released first is Chances, which is kind of a pop song. That's what I love most about the album - from ballad to R&B to pop, there's something for everyone. The lyrics of Ondrasik's songs are powerful and uplifting. I always feel better when I listen to his music.

Please, you MUST read the previous posts (here, here, and here) I have written about these offers very carefully - also read the comments left on those posts as those serve kind of as "frequently asked questions" that I respond to as well. If you have any questions, email or leave a comment. It's better to ask the question than to do something you aren't sure of and have it result in an unsuccessful offer.

It is very possible to be successful with these offers! Remember, you can only earn $1,000 in prizes from each Ideal sub-company (i.e. Bullseye, 123, etc.) so choose wisely! At the time of the posting of this, none of the offers posted required referrals. Offers can change at any time so be sure to review the terms and conditions before registering! FYI - I am hearing of people getting disqualified because they did an offer that was $500 plus a T-shirt and then when they do another $500 offer with the same sub-company are disqualified because they have technically done over $1,000 with that sub-company as the T-shirt has value! Be careful with these technicalities!

Earn Holiday Money Doing Surveys!

I have posted many times about doing online surveys but wanted to highlight surveys as a money-making opportunity as we enter the holiday season! Everyone can always use a few extra bucks so take some time when you're at home in your pjs, on the phone, or even watching TV and take a few surveys!

Here are my top 5 tips for taking online surveys:
1. Sign up with as many survey companies as possible. I'm going to highlight my top 6 in this post but you'll want to check out the surveys link on my blog to find more.
2. Use a separate email address for just surveys. That way your personal email inbox won't get overwhelmed! Schedule times each week for doing surveys.
3. Know that you won't always qualify for every survey. You'll never know what the demographic they are looking for is so just keep doing them!
4. Keep track of earnings and cash out frequently. Each company handles payment different. Keep a spreadsheet of each company's cahs out threshhold and method. Choose Paypal for the quickest payment.
5. Do the higher value surveys from the companies you do the best with first. As you do more surveys, you'll get to know which companies you do the best with. Choose these surveys first, from highest value to lowest value. Be strategic in the order you complete the surveys in your inbox.

I signed up for National Shopping Service a while ago but just recently completed (and was paid for!) my first shop. I found the directions to be clear and straightforward and the shop form was fairly easy to enter. In my area they have quick casual restaurants and retail establishments primarily. My Favorite Beauty Tip and Unilever Box of Beauty Products Giveaway!

I blogged about the Beauty Tip of the Day widget last month and hopefully you had a chance to check it out further! If you haven't seen it, it's in my left sidebar. The tips provided on the widget are really useful and many of the brands are providing printable coupons as well.

It's so hard for me to choose my favorite beauty tip from all of the great tips featured on the widget, but I think it'll have to be about the Ponds Wet Cleansing Towelettes. The tip is "When packing for your vacation, leave the bulky big cleanser bottles at home and learn to pack lighter. Mineral Secrets Make-Up Review & Giveaway

I am not much of an everyday make-up reviewer but I have several friends who rave aboutmineral makeup and so I was excited to try out the multi-task mineral starter kit (as pictured below) by Mineral Secrets to review for you all. The starter kit provides a small mini kabuki brush and 2 foundations as well as a multi-task color that can serve as just about anything - blush, eye shadow, etc! I loved the softness of the brush and was happy with the way it sprinkled the light makeup on my skin. Easily blended to create an eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick, blush and even as color for a clear-coat nail polish, the Mineral Secrets’ Ultra Sensitive Multi-Task Shadow gives new meaning to the term versatile. Available in colors that can be played up for evenings or down for daytime, this shadow offers multiple looks in one jar at one great value. The foundations were both good shades (ordering online can be tricky so I was happy to get 2 choices!) and gave excellent coverage while being light and airy at the same time.

I also reviewed the Acne Oil Control Gel which is part of the Acne Control 3 step kit. I loved the gel texture of this product and the fact that it didn't leave my face greasy. According to Mineral Secrets, "This lightweight gel combines the effective powers of salicylic acid with the soothing components of a botanical blend, clinically proven to control and regulate sebum. The gel boosts skin health with anti-bacterial ingredients to decrease bacteria and fight acne before it begins."

Pinecone Surveys - Registration Open!

I haven't posted about surveys in a while. I do surveys every day, sometimes just 1 or 2, other times I'll sit for an hour and do surveys, it just depends on my schedule. I typically earn about $100 or so per month on surveys and focus groups, etc. I love earning money in my pj's from home while in front of the TV. It's even better when a survey leads to a product test. I recently for a free 6 pack of toilet paper to try out!

Pinecone is la creme de la creme when it comes to survey companies. It's even invite only! You won't get bombarded with emails. I receive approximately 1-2 screener surveys per week. The screener surveys are short and if you qualify you'll get an invitation to complete the survey within a few days. They always give you a deadline by which the survey must be completed and I like knowing that I qualify for the survey and my time won't be wasted.

Pinecone surveys pay $3 each and you can elect to receive the money via Paypal or check. They automatically send the money after each survey so there is no need to remember to cash out or wait until you get to a set amount. Pinecone registration is by invite only and I've got an invite for you all - just click on the graphic above and enter your information. Please note that they are especially interested in people who live alone, English speaking Hispanic Americans, and surfers between 18 and 24 years old. I don't get any spam from Pinecone but you should use your separate deals or surveys email address when you sign up.

Hallmark Cards Review & Giveaway

I have always been a card person. I send holiday cards and birthday cards, even anniversary cards to friends! I was excited when the people at Hallmark contacted me about their new line of cards called Edge of Motherhood and encouragement cards for kids. I received the eight (8) cards shown below to review. I thought they were so clever and really cute! As is typical of Hallmark they are sturdy cards and the encouragement cards for kids play music! The best part? The cards are just $.99 ($2.99 for the ones that play music). This is a great deal. The card plus postage and it's still less than $1.50. Surely the special people in your life are worth that? To me, getting a card in the mail is so much more personal than an email card or ecard.

The Edge of Motherhood line is a line of humor cards designed to give moms a lift during their hectic days. A recent national survey commissioned by Hallmark revealed two-thirds of moms say they handle the imperfect moments of motherhood by sharing funny stories with other moms about their experiences, and that 8 in 10 moms turn to each other for candid, empathetic, and unapologetic support and reassurance that “we are all in this together.” That's what this line of cards is all about!

The encouragement cards for kids line are cards from parents to kids and are ways of giving kids an extra boost of confidence during their lives. This may be for a big test or game and are just a small way to remind a child that you're in their corner!

Michael Buble's Crazy Love Album

I enjoy many types of music and was excited when One2One Network contacted me to review Michael Buble's new album, Crazy Love. If you haven't heard him before, I think Michael Buble sounds like Frank Sinatra but he's way easier on the eyes, if you know what I mean! He is young and handsome and you don't expect his voice to be what it is - it's that of an old soul.

This album was released on October 9 and features two (2) original songs as well as covers of many old favorites. I especially enjoyed his rendition of "Cry Me a River" and "Georgia on my Mind". For me, this is great dinner party kind of music, the kind no one can object to and that soothes as it plays without causing a racket!

If you're looking for new music or already a fan of Michael Buble, this album is sure to impress and satisfy. Make sure to check out the acapella version of "Stardust" which is the last track. It's a superb rendition and gave me chills!

Go Green at CVS and Earn ECB's

CVS has a new Green Bag program that not only assists you in helping the environment but also puts ECB's in your pocket each month! Look for the CVS Green Bag Tags near the check-out at your store and purchase it for just $.99. Ask if you don't see them as stores are just now getting them to put out. It will give you a green leaf tag that you can put on your keychain just like your ECB card. Then bring reusable bags with you each time you shop at CVS. The cashier will scan your bag tag just like your ECB card gets scanned. You'll receive a $.25 credit for each time you do this. It's a limit of 1 per day per household so those of us who do multiple transactions on the same day will only get credit for using a reusable bad once. Still not bad, because you'll get $1 in ECB's every 4th time you do this!

Eileen Goudge's Once In A Blue Moon Review & Giveaway

I love to read and especially enjoy "chick lit" books in my spare time (which I don't have much of!). Since I read "heavier" material at work, I like to read light books that keep me interested and have well-developed characters. I jumped at the chance when One2One Network offered me a free copy of Eileen Goudge's new book, Once In A Blue Moon, to read and review. I have been a fan of Eileen Goudge for many years and enjoy her style of writing.The book was fast-paced and I was able to get through it very quickly and at several points didn't want to put it down. I think that is the mark of a great book! Eileen Goudge has written four (4) New York Times bestselling books and this one could very well be the rest. The book tells the story of sisters separated when young who reconnect at a time in their lives when they need each other most. The story is sentimental without being cheesy or sappy and I found myself smiling, laughing, and even wiping away tears throughout the book.

Check out the green widget on my left sidebar, Juice Box Jungle. Their newest sponsor is mint.com and is a must-see! Mint.com is a site all about helping you save. Mint.com has some very cool features especially on the topic of budgeting. The site is FREE to use and you'll get a complete picture of your finances within minutes.

There are some great features of mint.com that you should check out. There is mobile access and even ways to graph your earnings and expenses so you can see where your money is going and if there are ways to change your spending. For many, this kind of honest snapshot of their financial situation is helpful!
